melloThoughtPrivacy policy
melloThought collects nothing. What you write stays on your phone. Nothing in the app sends it anywhere, so melloWare Studios never sees it, keeps it or shares it.
Creator
melloThought is made by melloWare Studios, a software studio in Wales, UK.
Questions about this policy, or about your privacy in the app, go to support@mademelloware.com.

What the app keeps, and where
To do its job, melloThought keeps these things on your phone, in the app’s own private storage:
- the thoughts you write, and when you wrote each one;
- the name you sign them with, if you choose to sign;
- thoughts you have sent forward to arrive later, until they arrive;
- a random identifier the app creates when it is installed, which marks the thoughts written on this phone. It identifies the install, not you, and it only travels inside an export you make.
None of it leaves your phone through the app. There is no melloWare account and no melloWare server or cloud, and nothing is synced through melloWare.
What the app collects
Nothing. melloThought has no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no third-party code that gathers data. It does not ask for internet access, so it has no way to send anything to melloWare Studios or to anyone else.
Permissions
- Notifications — to deliver a thought you sent forward, when it is due.
- Alarms and reminders — so it arrives at the time you chose, not roughly then.
- Run at start-up — so thoughts still arrive after your phone restarts or the app updates.
- Vibration — for the small tap you feel when a thought leaves your hand.
That is all. The app does not ask for your contacts, location, camera, microphone, or access to your files; it only ever sees a file you pick yourself.
What Android does
A few things happen on your phone, under your phone’s settings rather than melloThought’s. They are worth knowing about:
- Notifications. When a thought you sent forward arrives, its words appear in a notification, shown wherever your notification settings allow — which can include the lock screen.
- Backup. If you use Android’s own backup, the app’s storage may be included in your phone’s backup to your Google account. That copy is held by Google under your account and your settings. melloWare Studios has no access to it.
- Export and import. When you export, you choose where the file goes, using your phone’s own save screen; from then on it is a file you hold, and it contains your thoughts as the app keeps them. Import reads only the file you pick.
Sharing
melloWare Studios does not sell, share or transfer any data from melloThought. There is none to transfer: it never reaches us.
Keeping and deleting
Your thoughts stay until you let them go. You can forget any thought in the app, and uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on your phone — though not a backup or an exported file you hold, which are yours to delete. Because melloWare Studios holds none of your data, there is nothing on our side to request deletion of. If you are unsure about anything, write to the address above.
Security
Nothing travels, so nothing needs protecting in transit. On your phone, Android keeps each app’s storage private to that app, so other apps cannot read what you write in melloThought. Anyone who can unlock your phone can open the app, the same as a notebook left on the table.
Target audience
melloThought is not directed at children.
Changes
If melloThought ever changes what it does with data, this page will change first — dated, and before any version that behaves differently reaches Google Play.
Testing
If you ask to join the testers’ group, Google Groups handles the request under Google’s own terms. melloWare Studios sees the email address you join with, and uses it only to run the test and tell you about it. Leave the group at any time and it is gone from the list.
